The Chancery Clerk's Office has a multitude of duties and functions which are governed by an assortment of statutes and court rules, along with following guidelines established either by the State Department of Audit or the Department of Finance and Administration.

The Chancery Clerk is responsible for maintaining and recording all land transactions, such as deeds, deeds of trust, assignments, releases and partial releases of mortgages, land redemptions, and oil and gas leases. The office is also responsible for the recording power of attorneys, federal tax liens, lis pendens, construction liens and military discharges.

The Chancery Clerk is Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, he is responsible for preparing and recording the official minutes of all Board meetings. As County Auditor and Treasurer, the clerk is responsible for the financial affairs of the County. He signs all checks for payment and is responsible for insuring that all expenses are correct.

The Chancery Clerk is Clerk for the Chancery Court where all civil matters are filed, such as, estates, guardianships and conservatorships, divorces, child custody, adoption, property disputes and other matters of equity through the Chancery Court.
